Punctuation?

At what point in Western languages did the use of periods, commas, and
perhaps other punctuation marks become widespread?  Has the idea been
investigated of certain Voynich symbols being periods or commas?  How might
such an analysis be undertaken?

Chuck Lee, who believes that the Voynich manuscript was prepared by someone
whose native language was very probably one of the major Western languages
