Re: Folding keys etc...
D*mn NICK (you are really making this HARD - Ha.haaa)
and showing off how poor my communications skill are !!)
Big smiles! (just kidding- but it is LATE for me as up all night, and
I haven't thought about this (till today) for weeks etc..)

Hi Steve,
I think we're getting there...
Can you explain how you "transfer" the characters under the long gallows to
the key? Do you write them into each of the lists of the key, or do you
write one character to each of the 8 lists? This has me confused. :-(
-=se=-> YES, a simple "character transfer" from under the long gallows
to the KEY PAPER 1-1 etc... BTW: ? what is an "8 list"? the paper
KEY is a just a 3x3 ~folded~ 9 sectioned off piece of
folded paper! 3x3 equaling 9 square(s).....
(ha.haa) maybe we should take this OFF LIST and dicker it out etc..
sorry to all on the group.list here?
MY "8" comes from the 4 characters PLUS a space then 4 characters = 8
new characters to put on the 9 squared paper (KEY) (center excluded)!
folding paper as before - just different letters (characters) inserted
I don't/wouldn't know what to call it now.a.days except "Floating! -
random!" insertion - it is easy to SEE though under the LONG gallows
(3 minimum). <-=se=-
Also: I don't quite see why you "really don't need" the missing key pages.
:-( 8 gallows characters ==> 8 translation lists, each of which is (say)
30 characters long: so roughly 240 entries per key.
Are you saying that you only really need *one* key, and that all the other
keys are variations on it?
-=se=-> you lost me here - sorry <-=se=-
yet,
-=se=-> WOW! (WE are not using the same TERM's, but I think you and I
ARE on the SAME BOAT (Page) here....(except for your usage of 8)
{{{{{{{ *YES* ONE (1) KEY + many variations... }}}}}}}}
Think 3x3 (or 9) the CENTER of the KEY paper is not used to my
knowledge. But a Voynich "Gallows" for the center there (if used)
would look like a football goal post with the sprial 'circle' in the
center - like |\ /| or "|o|" etc.. I've never SEEN this one in VMS.

1) The "KEY!!" is NOTHING BUT HOW TO FOLD A PIECE OF PAPER !!
(that is why we wouldn't need the original's (however what was
written on them would be handy indeed - if the pages are
~scrambled~ like the Key). like having an index of a book etc..
2) The "CODE" (inserts _now_) to make it DECODE are put on that FOLDED
piece
of paper - FROM the "long gallows" that you encounter in the text
your reading in VMS. _THAT IS WHY_ YOU WON'T NEED THE ORIGINAL "KEY"
PAGE(s) !!
That is Cool !!! (a good thing in US lingo) I would
liken it
to having 100 maps from around the world - once you can figure out
where IT is (you'll get street by street names), but we DON'T need the
INDEX (original KEYS/INDEX) saying those streets are on page #X etc..
just pick up all 100 maps and look for your "long gallows", one (or
more)
will fit the KEY PAPER your already using/FOUND under a previous long
gallow, then read those maps etc.. <-=se=-
>The "Gallows" you are looking AT (anywhere in the text) SHOW YOU
>where on the 3x3 folded (9 spaced paper) your "INSERT THIS ONE NOW"
>code is.
-=se=-> the LONG GALLOWS at least 3? .. tell one when to change the
KEY characters... <-=se=-
So, let me get this straight: looking at a character on a page, you
translate it with the list associated with the *last* gallows character you
looked at?
-=se=-> YES (left-to-right, TOP-to-Bottom<-=se-=
>NOW I feel more in the dark then ever!!
Same as everyone else here. :-)
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
take care - best to you & yours
