Voynich MS Binding
Dear all,
this is what I know about the binding of the MS:
Kraus pencilled in the inside of the back cover that
he has resewn several quires with red linen thread.
These should be easily recognizable.
The official description of the MS in the printed
Beinecke catalogue says that it has 18th-19th Century
binding. This was written by one Barbara Shaylor
who, I think, was a curator herself. Jim (Reeds), did
you ever manage to contact her afterwards?
This 18/19C binding doesn't help us in dating or
locating the MS, but I find it extremely interesting,
because at this time nobody knows where the MS was.
Or better, it was part of a huge MS collection that
was being hidden, perhaps from 1873 onwards, but
probably already from 1773 onwards. If someone
inspects
the binding and manages to identify the thread, it
would shed light on another historical mystery.
Cheers, Rene
