Re: Wolkenband...?
Hi everyone,
http://www.ehabitat.demon.co.uk/vms/letter-050.html
Can anybody please enlighten me as to what a "Wolkenband" is, and/or where
any such can be found in the VMS?
OK, a Wolkenband (thanks Claus) is a chain of clouds, and Newbold Plate XXI
is f68v3 - the "andromeda galaxy" picture. So: the wiggly/snaky/loopy thing
that delimits the edge of the "galaxy", with the 21 (make that 20) stars
inside is the Wolkenband that Erla Rosakiewicz was talking about in 1945.
The interesting thing (to me) is that the VMS Wolkenband can be viewed
either as if it's a raised surface, like a piece of wood with a jigsawed
edge, or as a wiggly window into the night sky, either through a ceiling or
through stylized clouds.
Does anyone know if this a typical Italian XV century Wolkenband or not?
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
