Re: Voynich letters
I guess this is really old hat, but I forgot to mention that the four
gallows (and their "shifted" c-h versions) remind me of the four "standout"
Greek characters - theta, phi, chi, xi.
The four gallows pairs might then be something like: tau/theta, pi/phi,
kappa/chi, sigma/xi. These would be easy to remember (for the encoder).
If these mark transitions between states, then to lower the entropy of the
output stream, perform a frequency analysis on each state, and order each
mapping by frequency. So: the remaining symbols would be a ranking
prediction - the most likely symbol in this state, the 2nd most likely
symbol in this state, etc.
Does anyone have any medieval Greek plaintexts I can use to test this out?
Thanks, .....Nick Pelling.....
