The MS doesn't actually say, but there is some
literature about it.
First of all, this type of illustration is unique.
There is no other example of it, unless you count
the VMs. While we cannot jump to any conclusions, 
I still find this very significant.

Experts agree that the illustrations should be
traced back to statues from classical times.

Secondly, the purpose of this image is to give
the times of a specific astronomical event. This
is what the whole MS is about, by the way. I forget
exactly what, but I vaguely recall it's related
to the time the Sun rises on a particular day of
the month, or something very similar. I need to
search at home. 
I wanted to include all this in the web page
cited before, and which is still only fragmentarily
available but this is one of these things....

I do think that this is a significant lead.
