Re: The Fastow Disk
A good source for decipherments of the Phaistos disk
is:
users.otenet.gr/~svoronan/phaistos.htm
It does lack a few, however, and alas, that of
John Chadwick when he was trying to convince the
editors of National Geographic not to make
asses of themselves by publishing Steven
Fischer's decipherment. To make his point, Chadwick
deciphered the disk as a legal document on wells
and water rights ... in medieval Japanese!
But all is not lost: New Scientist has taken up
what National Geographic has shrunk from publishing.
See their issue n.2121 of 14 February 1998, p.44,
where the Phaistos Disk is even described as a
"large, carved, stone disk." Like Dennis comments
on his web site http://www.champollion.nu
"disk" has got to be a typo for "dish"!
