I would be quite grateful if someone posted a quick report. Our
library probably carries the magazine, but it may take weeks to get
here...
It's a nice article, that manages to give a feeling both for what the VMS
is, and for the current state of play in VMS research. Of course, it would
have been nicer if it had been 10x longer, but what the hey. :-)
If the article does have a fault, it's that it (kind of) gives the
impression that the VMS are being attacked by nobody apart from
cryptographers and linguists - but Catherine Z did an excellent job of
fitting a lot of detail into a small space, so this may just be nitpicking
on my part. :-/ Still, I've written to the NS letter-page to try and
balance this out... maybe they'll publish, maybe not, you never know.
But the best news of all is that New Scientist publishes *all* its articles
into its web archive one week after the cover date (17 November + 7 days =>
24th November), so it should be accessible to everyone eight days from now
- I'll post up a direct link here when they do. :-)
That'll save me the bother of OCR'ing it in and being sued for copyright
infringement. :-)
