VMS -- Botany (f17v) Wild Buckwheat

Polygonum convolvulus (Wild Buckwheat; Climbing Bindweed) appears to be
a reasonable match for the botanical drawing in VMS f17v. This plant is
also referred to as Fallopia convolvulus (Black Bindweed) (L.) A. Loeve,
Bilderdykia convolvulus (L.) Dum., Helxine convolvulus (L.) Neuman,
Polygonum convolvulus L. As with many of the botanical 'matches' in the
VMS there are certain aspects in the comparison with which I am not
completely satisfied; however, I feel that it is important and often
informative to at least make the best educated assessment possible in an
initial identification.
