Before you all get engrossed in one particular detail & miss the big
picture: an identification based purely on the swallow-tail merlons would
indeed be Python-esque. :-)
What got me excited wasn't them alone, but the two stand-alone rivellins,
one inside the city walls and one outside. External rivellins rapidly
proved themselves to be less than useful, and - unless we have a military
historian here to turn this into a proper debate - they were only briefly
in fashion.
This should help us reduce the number of possible candidate castles (and
dates) by, say, 90% or more.
I think we'll end up with a list with just one entry... but I would say
that, wouldn't I? :-)
