VMs: Re: More shorthand trivia

Hi GC,

Well, the search for information on shorthand is rather
frustrating. There seems to be a very large gap in history
between the Tironian Notes and Timothy Bright's publication.

The key question is - did Bright produce his Characterie from a clean slate, or did he derive parts of it from other shorthand systems of the time?

I've seen (brief) mention of European Reformation shorthand systems (devised to take down Protestant sermons), but don't know if these have been covered systematically anywhere.

There may have been yet other specialised shorthand systems that history has somehow forgotten. :-/

Again, simply to avoid misconceptions, I do not believe the
Voynich to be written in shorthand. I believe the script to have
its foundations in shorthand notes, giving it its appearance. The
origins of the script are not necessarily a key to the VMS, but
are important in its history.

Agreed! :-)
