Subject: VMs: Mailing list magic...

Hi everyone,

I've spent a bit of time over Christmas devising a bit of mailing list
magic. :-)

A problem with Web versions of mailing lists is the lack of internal
cross-references: so I've put together some JavaScript that, once a page
finishes loading, manipulates the page to add hyperlinks to keywords listed
in the JavaScript. If the browser doesn't support JavaScript, then no extra
links appear, which is an OK fallback position. :-)

The advantage of this is that pages stay static on the server forever,
while the only things that need change are the two JavaScript source files
(which stay external to the HTML), which can be updated as
cross-referencing expands. Neat! :-)

Here's the first test page:-

On my PC, this appears to work fine under IE6.0 and K-Meleon 0.7 (one of
the recent Mozilla spin-offs), but not yet under NS4.76 and NS6 (though I'm
on the case). Can I ask you to try this out on your own browsers, please,
in case any subtle incompatibilities need sniffing out?

If, once the link above loads, Kircher, Kinner, Prague, f1r, f22v, f103r
all appear as hyperlinks to (currently non-existent) pages on
http://www.voynich.info/ then your browser would appear to be working fine
with it - but please let me know either way! :-)

Thanks, .....Nick Pelling.....

PS: if you're interested, the two JavaScript files are:-
