Reminds me of the Brighthelmstone creature.

A strange man-like creature caught in the sea off Brighthelmstone
(now Brighton, in England) in early 16thC if I remember correctly.
Kept in captivity. Wrote crazy stuff no-one could recognise. Became ill.

A 20thC Science Fiction story (I forget the author) recognised him as a
known Japanese wrestler, caught in epicentre of Hiroshima bomb.
Re-appeared in old Brighton, symptoms suggesting severe radiation
poisoning.

But the story of the original Brighthelmstone Creature appears to have
been at least in part true, however, and it seems he did indeed leave
a few strange incomprehensible writings now lost.

I wonder, now........
