VMs: Numbers in 49r, 49v?

We've all looked long and hard at the string down the side of 49v,
but going over my transcription, I couldn't help but notice that
the "odd" characters on 49r may have been an attempt to indicate
numbers, and what we're witnessing here is a transition in format
between the two pages.

There are at least five instances on 49r where characters are set
apart or "joined" by a loop over them, mostly at the beginning of
a line. The "joining" of the "4o" combination only occurred once
before this point, at 1v.7.1 (folio 1v, line 7, word 1). This
earlier joining was in the form of a line instead of a loop, but
it must still be considered indicative of a marker left by the
author to indicate an alternate interpretation of that symbol.

If indeed these on 49r are numbers, the author chose a more
obvious format on 49v, separating the glyphs from the body instead
of noting them with strokes. Just a theory.
