Where did you download them from?

I just dowloaded the 1998 file from Joge Stolfi's site to check:

http://www.dcc.unicamp.br/~stolfi/voynich/mirror/reeds/vmail.html

And, once unzipped, you have one file per month, named, e.g.
1998.01.Jan, the contents of which are plain ASCII text.
(It figures, since Jorge Stolfi and Jim Reeds use Unix.)

I doubt very much that the mail archives are available
anywhere in Microsoft Access format.

I could read it even using good old Qedit (a DOS editor).
I could also read it using NoteTab Light by Eric. G. Fookes,
a (very good) freeware editor for Win3 and Win9x. You are
sure to find it at TuCows or WinSite... actually, it's here
