VMs: I asked historians of soviet era about unidentified documents

And got something to speculate with:

20 years ago or so it was told, in Novgorod there are found some old documents
written on peeled birch bark, some of which was not understandable. These might
be in some Finno-Ugric language - Russians do not have problems with similar
early Scandinavian or Slavic documents, afaik. Btw, I believe, Novgorod (with
its tolerance and relative democracy) was the only place, where such a
Voynich-book could "live" (i.e. be used) up to AD1400 or even more. But since
the Voynich-plants are probably more southern, it could not be created there.

Also in soviet years, there was a rumor about a scientist in Ukraine, named
Tkachenko, who probably had evidence about "heretic" texts or icons in early
centuries of Christianity in Kiev-Rus. Maybe Mr.Stojko knows better?
