Ok, seriously though, what I actually meant was: any proposed solution has 
a lot of constraints it needs to satisfy simultaneously, if it is to map to 
the behaviour we see (and know and love). :-)

The *particular set* of apparent letter adjacency rules (as opposed to the 
idea of "letter adjacency in general") form one such constraint, and there 
are many others...
