To work out the entropy (or the statistical properties in general) of a
text (or a line, or a page), you need first to know what are atomic units
of the stream of data.
However, canny code-makers knew by 1440 that if you could misdirect the eye
away from seeing the stream in terms of its actual atomic units, most
statistics-centric code-breaking methodologies - which we're still applying
today, though computer-assisted - simply wouldn't even begin to work.
Basically, remember that no matter how accurate (or automated) your
measurements, if you're measuring the wrong thing, you probably won't get
very far. :-o
