Dear all,

the paper by Brumbaugh, cited below by Robert Teague,
has no astronomical content. It maintains that the
names near the star nymphs are the names of spirits,
in particular people like Alexander (I forgot who else).
The encryption/decryption method is the same as
he used for the plant labels.

It is completely unconvicing.

He translates all Voynich characters to the numbers
1-9 and then the numbers 1-9 back to the Latin
alphabet, where one always has a choice of 3.

It is almost impossible to trace back his method,
since he gives only one of the two tables needed
in the above procedure. One can reconstruct the
missing one, of course, but it is not very consistent,
and even then, the names coming out are only vague
resemblances of the names he claims are intended.

The paper is subject to the normal copyright, of
course, but I can make available electronic copies
to a restricted number of people for fair use.

Cheers, Rene

While reading over the VMs bibliography, I noticed
the

Brumbaugh, R.S. "The Voynich 'Roger Bacon' Cypher
Manuscript: Deciphered Maps of Stars"

Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes

Since I'm studying the Astro section, this would
be of interest. Is it available anywhere? I did a
web search to no avail.

Thanks!

Robert
