Having read some of his rants, I'm now 99% sure it was part of a Francis E. 
Dec rant I'd seen quoted (though, shamefully, it wasn't credited to him).

My guess is that he lies silent in hospital not because of his stroke, but 
because he's *said everything that needs saying already*. Still, I don't 
know about you but I'd certainly buy a Dec "Greatest Rants" CD. :-o
