Well... hopefully it's a start, anyway. :-)
A by-product of your theory is that the illustrations are an elaborate
piece of obfuscation. A kind
of steganography, meant to distract from the real (textual) contents.
I'd like to hope that the theory should stand independently of whatever the
content turns out to be.
For example, from my research into the "nine rosette" map page, it seems as
though what we now see is an obfuscated version of a real map - I think the
main "castle" rosette represents Milan, and the central rosette Venice, but
the rest of the images are quite possibly no more than the briefest of aide
memoires. More on that another day. :-)
