I was in Prague - and in the Clementinum - for the most
of last week. Unfortunately, other concerns did not allow me
to search specifically for the VMS clues. But I checked
some references for Baresch/Bares - and no luck.
The closest match was a Zigmunt Bares z Kamenice who
owned a house in Prague in 1471. I am now convinced
that "our" Baresch was a native of Olomouc. As may be
remembered, in the book of 1662 Marci says he had known
Baresch for (over?) 40 years, and taking into account the fact
that he went to Prague in 1618 after studying for some
time in Olomouc, I would guess they had their chemical
discussions there.

And now the most interesting (partial) finding, which really
struck me. In one of the books I looked at in Prague there
was a reference on Kelley's house in Prague to Moryson's
_Itinerarium_ (1617). I had no time to check the Czech edition
of the part on Bohemia (and hopefully there are enlightening
footnotes there) but on coming back I had a look at the English
edition in the library here - and next to the piece on Kelley's
house, I find this:

In Old Prage towards the South, and upon the East
side of Molda, there is an old Pallace, where they
shew a trap-doore, by which the Queene was wont to slide
downe into a Bath, where shee used to satisfie her
   unlawful lust.

Any comments?

Best regards,

Rafal
