VMs: Siyaqat...
Hi everyone,
I've just had an email from Dr Colin Heywood, one of the top Western
scholars on Ottoman history, who I contacted concerning more references to
siyaqat more recent than Lajos Fekete's 1955 book. Unfortunately, his
opinion is that Fekete "remains both irreplaceable and a monument of
scholarship of a quality that is now hard to find", which more recent books
fall well short of.
He did however suggest that I also look at his article on "Yarligh" (a type
of decree) in the last volume of the Encyclopaedia of Islam. There's a
(Mongol) definition of it here...
