One really nice thing about 'wasting' time on
the VMs is that one gets exposed to so many
different things one otherwise would not have seen.
Castles with swallow-tail crenellations is just one
minor example. There are some really fascinating
ones. How about the one where historic chess
games are staged with live chess pieces (including
horses!). I think it is called Marostica.
The whole north of Italy is scattered with such
castles, but the crenellations are also found
on towers, bridges, houses, palaces etc.
There are litterally too many to check up on, and
it is possible to find relatively close matches
with the one in the VMs, without being able to know
with any sort of confidence that the VMs intends
to represent it.
But just imagine sitting on a sunny terrace
overlooking such a castle, with a glass of
wine and the prospect of a good italian meal.
Cheers :-)
