The Mondragone College web site is very interesting
indeed! Are you in contact with the owners? They
might be surprised that there is this particular
interest in their information, and might be
quite intrigued by the problem (*) and willing to
help.
*) The problem being how and when the whole set
of MSS got there, and how the whole sale to
the various subsequent owners was done.
The administration of the college is
obviously still available.
Two of the four Strickland brothers are mentioned
in Voynich's correspondence (at least the part
that I saw): Joseph and Paul. Of one of them
there is even a photograph.
I remember reading (but seem not to have copied it
on my web site) that the sale of the MSS to Voynich
was done without the knowledge of the Rector.
There is a letter from one of the Mondragone staff
to Voynich, I think his name is Tometta, but this
name does not seem to appear in the web site.
I will definitely check at home.
Xavier, how much access do you have to Voynich's
correspondence? Have you been to the Beinecke,
or do you have a copy at home? There is a lot of
stuff in boxes B and F, if I remember correctly.
Like I said - I will check at home and report
further.
Cheers, Rene
