This gives us 1 more believable working hypothesis:


Say, an italian priest/missionary/monch in Lithuania in late XIV or early XV 
siecle. 

He lives his life among some of many nations (Baltic?  Finno-Ugric?  
Turkish-Tartarian?). He is impressed by some native herbal "doctor-man" and 
he tries to write down his herbal teaching ...
... in the same native language, which has not at last of a strict grammar ...  


He makes in the fly some strange characters to meet some strange speech 
sounds... ... et voila, there you have ...

Later, when most of the early "big" Lithuania (which spoke mostly other, than 
Lithuanian languages) found it comfortable to change Polish, this anabasis was 
just forgotten.

And still, if its a hoax, then this could be, what the author wanted us to 
believe. YouŽsee, if it comes from the same background, where V. lived, then 
they probably wanted to draw attention to the history of there own nation.
