Re: Capelli, was Re: VMs: Lettering and handwriting

sorry to butt in here Gabriel. Out of curiosity I had a look in Cappelli for anything resembling eva sh, and found a couple of symbols that look similar but not identical. I checked the C section, the introduction and the list of word symbols in the back. I haven't checked all of it and I haven't checked in Trice-Martin "The Record Interpreter" (which also has some abbreviations). The similar characters in Cappelli are on page 49, top of column 2 for the words circumstantiam, circularis, circuit and circulation. Again on page 66, 2nd column for the words certitudino and downwards to caetenum.
 
If anyone has a chance to look at Cappelli for the first time, don't forget to look at Tavola IV facing page LX in the intro for a repro. of a medieval mss that actually has some gallows letters in it, though as Jim Reeds pointed out at the Teddington meeting where he mentioned and showed table 4, they are ornamental and seem to be applied to letters on the top line without any obvious reason.

Yes, it is full of abbreviations, and would be
a hard read for someone like me, without
experience. I wonder if someone with a copy of
Capelli (Gabriel?) could tell us what is the
meaning of the Eva-sh look-alike figure in this
case. The curl is very much like a figure 9,
which is also used as an abbreviation for -us.
