But then I currently believe the VMS is from the late 1500s to 1615 so
it is not that unusual from my stand point.

As far as is known, the first anamorphoscopes {shiny cylinders or cones)
were used in Europe in the seventeenth century, although Western
anamorphic
art based on perspective, but without a mechanical device to view it,
began
with Leonardo da Vinci, and was used by Erhard Schoen and Hans Holbein
the
Younger, especially in his painting "The Ambassadors" (1533). If the
generally accepted dating of VMS is correct, and there is some sort of
anamorphic representation in it, this would be quite significant for art
history.
