RE: VMs: NecroManIcon
Nothing Voynichese about the original as far as I can see, but you can find
it in the BL online catalogue http://molcat.bl.uk/msscat/INDEX.ASP by doing
"Search the Index" and then "Find Index Records for a specific Manuscript."
The result is:
"Magic . Invocation of spirits 17th cent. Sloane. 3702."
Unfortunately Sloane catalogue descriptions are still "In progress. Partly
available on-line." The manuscript does mention Trithemius, and (elsewhere)
John Dee's Liber Scientiae Terrestris.
Robert Turner's transcription of the Operation of Usiel from Sl.3702 appears
on p. 95-98 of his Elizabethan Magic. The seals and the text in Turner are
almost identical to those in Theurgia Goetia
*(http://www.esotericarchives.com/solomon/theurgia.htm#usiel). Theurgia is
heavily dependent on the Steganographia ("hidden writing") of Trithemius, in
this case http://www.esotericarchives.com/tritheim/steg2.htm#chap11. The
"lesser seal" of Usiel appears at the end of that chapter.
So, it is clear that the use of the Voynich alphabet was an innovation of
the said web site, http://www.eclecticmagick.com/wht11.php, part of the
"spoof."

Ain't no such beast (according to the BL's catalogue, anyway)?
