	I think that the connections with established European
precedents make
more sense, by Occam's Razor:

	- medieval Latin abbreviations, as per D'Imperio
	- Renaissance cipher scripts, seen in Trandechino
	- gallows embellishments, very clearly related, albeit 
		with attestation from 1050-1350, rather earlier
		than the probable VMs 1450-1550
	- the humanist hand, 1450-1500
	- Tironan notae, altho here I'm less familiar and more 
		sceptical.

	I concur with most of Glen's comments on the date. 
The remarks above 
on script also place it in the same time frame.
