VMs: entropy program

Hi All,

I have made the java entropy calculator run (with a little
help of my son). It is the one I reported finding recently at:

  http://ouray.cudenver.edu/~wcjackso/DCProject/project.html

The author is Bill Jackson.

If anyone is interested in the jar file (so that it runs
with just JRE), I may put it on the Web.

It looks nice but uses slightly different terminology. For example
the Monkey nth order is here called N-Gram Size - and I am not
sure if it is really the same, as results seem to be different.
It also has the options for character/word and listing characters
to be omitted. It is case sensitive, however, and lists tokens
separately with different cases. But the author states in
the online article that the text is converted to lower case
while parsing - maybe just for entropy calculation?

I have just tried it on samples of St. Augustine and Decartes
(33 and 27 Kb respectively) and the results are slightly
different than on Monkey - but it reports accepting only
10 Kb of the file (rather than 23 Kb).

If anyone with better understanding of entropy than mine
(which on this list means just "anyone") could try it out
and express an opinion, I would be grateful.

Best regards,

Rafal
