VMs: Italian

A quick question. This might sound a bit silly to more knowledgeable list
members, but did Italian exist as such in the 15-16C and if so has anyone
got any examples of transcribed italian text of the period. I would like to
run tests on some text from the period as I feel I am getting interesting
results.

Alas this blows my theory of the vms being English right out of the water.
Oh well!
