The next meeting
of the Botanical Society of Washington will be held on Tuesday, November
4th at 7:00 pm.
Dr. Alain Touwaide, Research Associate at the
Smithsonian Institution, NHM, Section of Botany, will deliver an
illustrated talk titled "Herbals from Manuscript to Printing."
The
talk will deal with the transformation of herbals from the Late Middle
Ages to the Renaissance, the re-introduction of ancient knowledge (Greek),
the diffusion of ancient data through printing, the separation of botany
from pharmacy, and the development of a new discipline.
