Now why didn't I ever think of this?????

Water nymphs are common figures in mythology!!!! Now
THAT ought to be a productive line of inquiry!

I searched Dogpile using "water nymphs" and saw
references to naiads, undines, and other mythical
creatures...

I searched Adam Maclean's Alchemy site for "water
nymphs" and I find a reference to Sendivogius:

"... sought, even unto this present, by men of high and
low degree. But as I watched the Naiads and Nymphs
disporting themselves in the water, being fatigued with
my previous toils, and overwhelmed by ..."

http://www.levity.com/alchemy/sendalgy.html

but for some reason I can't open many things on the
site.
Apparently it's SENDIVOGIUS' ENIGMA OF THE SAGES.
I see Rafal Prinke has something on Sendivogius there!

I don't have time to more now, but I'm sure going to
pursue this! I hope someone else does too!!!

PS - Francois is right that Islam forbids depiction of
human faces and unclothed figures, but paradises of
springs - and probably nymphs! - most likely figure in
desert people's legends.
