VMs: Late 13th century picture

Hello 

I have just come across a late 13th century Swedish picture-story; I
cannot say quite why, but it seems to me to have somewhat of a VMS feel
to it, especially the bits of foliage and the little jars. Or am I (as
my old friend would say) barking up into quite the wrong sort of woods?
