I am not sure how much reserach they really put
into it? Maybe Panofsky just looked at the VMS and
replied to questions from his expertise rather than
searching for details etc.?

BTW: Checking for Panosfky and the VMS on the Net, I found
two interesting references in the:

Index to the _Princeton University Library Chronicle_

   ELV (Ethelhilian [sic!] voynich). vol. 28 no. 1 p. 2-17

   Kelchevskii, Ivan. nym of Mikhail Voynich. vol. 28 no. 1 p. 2-3

They both point to the same article. Has anyone seen it?
