Playfair was invented over 200 years after the first recorded Voynich sighting. The other systems you've been discussing (the polyalphabetics that might benefit from Kasiski) won't work with any obvious transformation of a normal transcription into letters, because of too many repeats at too many offsets. The statistics aren't anything like a polyalphabetic or digraphic cipher... at least not using the things that look like letters to be the unit of the cipher. -- Jim Gillogly
