I would compare the VMS with the infamous "zone" from the science fiction
novel "Picknick by the side of the road" by the russian Strugacki brothers,
later turned into the "Stalker" film by Tarkovski and soon to be released as
a computer game (my 13y old son just can't wait for it to be finished). The
"zone" is the side effect of the aliens having landed, and many laws of
nature are suspended inside the "zone".
