Admittedly, when looking at the pictures on f68v, my first idea was "Oh, that's 
a before/after comparison, and it shows something opening up, with streams of 
stuff bursting out of it."

OTOH, that's a fairly modern and advanced interpretation of the happenings at a 
supernova. To the contemporary mind, it probably was merely another star in the 
skies. Way less dramatic.
