VMs: Gallows versus normal ornamental characters

Has anyone compared the frequency and pattern of gallows characters with the
occurence of  "ornamental" characters?

I have found several manuscipts where the pattern of special characters
reminds me of the pattern of gallows. I can dig deeper, but I don't want to
re-invent the wheel.

I can't show you the examples now, I have no scanner at home.
