black and white.  Note: when analyzing, I am using "graphics editor" for magnification and
it works pretty well without introducing additional coarseness - up to certain level, of
course. Also, there is a good trick, first  used with Turin Shroud - we can generate the
negatives via such editor, which sometimes gives rather interesting insights.

Until recently all I had was the Japanese "light" copy. Then Dennis on
this list sent me "dark" copy. I can send you one, if you like.

It was by inverting the image that I found what I thought was the year
"1708" written at the top, but I now think was an artifact.

Inverting also helped features of the alphabet table to stand out.
