To a certain extent, it does make sense:
When dialing a phone number, I kind of select an entry from a list, which would
be sorted top to bottom, usually (ie smallest number on top), and the first
entry would be "1" (rather than "0", for all you programmers out there).
When calculating, it makes sense for larger numbers to appear above the smaller
ones, just as values on a coordinate system y-axis grow upwards. And "0" would
be the first/bottommost value.
