Hello,  

if you calculate the average word of the VM, you will find it is not so bad - for instance less than 15 percent shoter tne fo Latin - apaprently more "medium" length "words" make up for the lack of long ones.   That would point out to the use of transposition cipher, with additonal spaces as zeroes.
