Nevertheless "7" is usually attributed to the Pleiades, and in Germany they even
go by the name of "Siebengestirn", the "constellation of seven."

So, I guess it would be reasonable for an artist to draw the Pleiades with seven
stars. But you're correct; other than the fact that there is no other open
cluster with that number of stars, there's little to corroborate the assumption.

Probably people just cling to it because it seems to be one of the very few
pieces of evidence for _anything_ in the VM...
