VMs: Administrivia: virus mail
This morning a virus message appeared on the list. It claimed to be
from Rafal, but the headers were forged in such a way that they didn't
match his normal email pattern.
The list rejects mail from non-members, but as long as the address is
correct the mail is allowed to go through. I know a lot of virus mail
has been sent various places forged wih my mail address, which has had a
wide net presence for over ten years.
We discourage attachments and, in fact, anything but plain old ascii text,
but I haven't figured out how to block attachments with Majordomo without
setting up a second mailing list, which would cost another $10/month.
If you read mail under Windows, please be sure your virus program and
signatures are up-to-date!
