Didn't Jim Reeds did some OCR of the Friedman printouts? I seem to remember 
that somebody at AT&T was also involved with that project. But that was not 
OCR of the ms. itself.
Given that the text goes all over the place, I think such task would need a 
lot of manual intervention (and perhaps some divine one as well) :-)
