Re: Re: Marci, was Re: VMs: Photostat Machines
Hello,
our contact in Rome is Father J. Kolacek S.J., ( he is of Czech antionality) - he is also the redactor
of Vatican Radio. The translation from his letter follows:
-----------------
" The archive materials from Clementinum were, after dissolution of S.J. in 1773, mostly relocated
into "kaiserlich-koeniglich" Archive, today's Nationalbibliothek Wien. The Archivum Romanum could
not ger anything since it was alredy sold out - even for a scrap paper - or destroyed. After the
restitution of S.J. in 1814, the Archivum Romanum Societatis Jesu was put together, but with with
large gaps."
Pax et gaudium cum spe J. Kolacek S.J.
------------------
As for Prague S. J., I wrote them a letter (to the Department of Foreign Affairs since I am living in
Canada) with the offer of cooperation which was not answered. It was actually in the attachment, to
save Czech diacritics, and come to think of it, their firewall may not accept attachments, so I have to
try harder. In the meantime, we contacted one of retired archivers who used to work there who
confirmed the news from Rome.
Now I am writing another letter to them, with another offer of cooperation. It looks we do need
somebody inside the Society, with the current access to archives, more than just formal approach.
With the archive practically missing, it may take a lot of searching so we would prefer the person who
is also interested in the VM and it's Prague history.
Regards,
Jan
