VMs: Inks

So has a chemical analysis ever been done on any of the inks?
And if not, what are the odds of one being done if/when the MS is sent for conservation? 

As I look at the images of "retracing", with the color and the splotchiness, I get an 
overpowering impression of Mehndi (Henna tatoos). Specifically something used to stain the 
skin of the vellum rather than an opaque particle application like an ink. Just a thought.
