To be clear, I also tried adjusting the contrast, brightness, and gamma: and I have also spent a long time in the past looking for non-Voynichese hidden throughout the VMs. Good though the sidfiles are, compression artefacts are rife at the high level of magnification you're looking at - and so it's very easy to hallucinate things that aren't quite there (I've done exactly that myself on f57r, seeing JPEG artefacts as hidden astrological symbols).


True, there are strings
or circles or dashes somewhere else, but that is just jumping to conclusion based on sheer
similarity. As for "no reason for something to be there" - that's exactly what
steganography is based on :-).

What I actually meant was that other strings of circles and dashes in pharma section look just as plausibly like numbers as this page (if you squint your eyes a bit) - except that in those other examples, we don't have a blue wash covering them to force us to use our imagination, so as to complete the gestalt. :-)
