RE: VMs: Re: Moot points, getting long

	GC, GC, GC...

I know we've been here plenty of times before, but as many list members
have cited the greatest benefit to EVA is to aid in communication. Yeah, it
means you had to learn this foreign transliteration scheme that doesn't
quite align with your theories - but hey - when you spell out 'dain'
everyone can quickly focus on the 'word' you are looking at. I agree EVA
doesn't meet perfectly with a stroke-based glyph system - but it works for
general communication. I also don't feel there is any threat to FSG or
Currier etc... by translating their schemas into a common one for discussion
purposes.

I like the fact that Currier's i-stroke series were well-mapped, but was
also frustrated that the c-stroke ones weren't. Nonetheless, what Currier
saw as a single character and called a '3' is a little easier to envision as
'iiin'. In my view and yours, as well as Currier's this is a single
'glyph' - but EVA denotes it as iiin and we all know and understand what
Currier was looking at. Compare that with Currier's 'U' and EVA 'iir' and
you should be able to visually feel the glyph staring you in the face using
EVA.

Standard Transcription Systems make communication easier - they don't have
to and are often not very indicative of the real text the represent. I don't
pronounce words like 'qotedy' - I spell them in a simplified transliteration
scheme that is known to list members - and we don't have to keep learning
proprietary alphabets.

	John.
